'The Nun' News, Release Date: 'Conjuring 2' Spinoff Movie to Feature Moody Atmosphere, Says Writer

Although "Annabelle: Creation" has just premiered in theaters, most of the movie's fans are already looking forward to the release of "The Nun," a spinoff film that features the demonic specter of the nun that haunted Lorraine Warren throughout "The Conjuring 2."

Recently, "The Nun" writer Gary Dauberman explained what sets the upcoming movie apart from the other films in the "Conjuring" universe that also featured the character. He said the spinoff movie will have a different feel and will take a cool approach to depicting the evil nun.

"Y'know, James has been really particular and he wants each movie in the universe to have its own sort of flavor and its own sense of style and not feel like it's just kind of a rehash of what's come before and I think The Nun takes a really cool approach that, you know, we haven't seen before in some of the other movies," Dauberman shared in an interview with Collider.

The two "Conjuring" films and the first "Annabelle" movie were set in the 1970s, while "Annabelle: Creation" took place in the 1940s. Although the time period of "The Nun" has not yet been confirmed, Dauberman said it would feature the same kind of moody atmosphere. According to him, the upcoming movie will be set in Romania, not just because of the location itself but also "because of the production value" and vibe that the place gives off.

"The Nun" will follow a priest as he moves to Rome to probe a mysterious death. Bonnie Aarons is set to reprise her role as the demonic nun who appeared in the previous movies in the "Conjuring" franchise, while Taissa Farmiga will join the cast as a young sister named Irene.

"The Nun" is currently in production and is slated for release on July 13, 2018.
