'The Originals' Season 4 News, Updates, Spoilers: New Enemy to Settle 'Centuries-Old' Grudge with the Mikaelsons in Season 4
CW's "The Originals" Season 4 is set to return on Jan. 29, 2017, amid reports that the show will end co-terminus with its origin series, "The Vampire Diaries," which is currently on its final eighth season. Despite its bleak future, the fourth installment of "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff promises more action and challenges for the Mikaelsons as they face off new enemies.
What went down in 'The Originals' Season 3
For the newly initiated, "The Originals" focuses on the Mikaelson family as they become embroiled in the supernatural politics of New Orleans. Klaus Mikaelson (portrayed by Joseph Morgan) is the original half-vampire, half-werewolf hybrid, and is considered to be the patriarch of the Mikaelson clan.
During "The Originals" Season 3 finale, Klaus and his family were attacked by Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), his once-protege. His eldest daughter Freya Mikaelson (Riley Voelkel) was poisoned, while Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) were poisoned. Klaus is then put to trial, where he is inevitably sentenced to be daggered which leaves him paralyzed according to Marcel's whims.
It's revealed toward the end, however, that it was all part of Freya and Rebekah's (Claire Holt) plan to save the family. They used Klaus' body as a link to the Mikaelsons' consciousness, while Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin) tries to find cures for the various afflictions of each of the family members and reunite them for "The Originals" Season 4.
What to expect from 'The Originals' Season 4
"The Originals" Season 4 is expected to kick in five years after the events of the season finale, during which the youngest Mikaelson, Hope, will have already grown up and will be able to save her father, Klaus, from his curse. She will be played by Summer Fontana, and is deemed powerful enough to be able to free her father from prison. But after all those years gone by, will she volunteer to help him out?
It's also possible that Caroline Forbes (Candice King) may be able to save Klaus in "The Originals" Season 4. Fans would remember that Caroline is already with Stefan in "The Vampire Diaries," but it's reported that the vampire might return to New Orleans to save Klaus from his ordeal.
Meanwhile, TVGuide reported that a new villain will be coming to "The Originals" Season 4, possibly to torment the Mikaelsons even further. According to the report, the new baddie is coming to town specifically to settle a "centuries-old" grudge against Klaus Mikaelson.
"The Originals" Season 4 will return with 13 episodes on January 2017.
