'The Path' Season 1 Cast News: Kathleen Turner Plays Hugh Dancy's Mother In New Hulu Series
Those who tune in to Hulu's new original drama series "The Path" when it becomes available at the end of March may be surprised to see a Hollywood legend in its cast. In exclusive "first look" photos revealed by Entertainment Weekly, movie and stage actress Kathleen Turner can be seen playing the role of Brenda Roberts, the mother of character Cal Roberts (Hugh Dancy).
In the accompanying EW interview, "The Path" executive producer Jason Katims gushed about Turner's performance, saying, "I think it is one of the most amazing and gifted performances I've ever had on a show." The "Body Heat" actress will reportedly appear in the third episode of "The Path" and the introduction of her character is said to give some context to Cal's story.
"When you meet [Turner], you understand the sort of mess his childhood was and why he became a part of this movement," Katims revealed. In "The Path," Cal Roberts is the charismatic leader of a cult called the Meyerist Movement.
According to the show's EP, the idea to cast Turner for the role of Cal's mother came from Michael Weaver, one of the show's producers. "He said, 'You know, I can't keep Kathleen Turner out of my mind for this role,'" Katims disclosed.
The "The Path" boss also talked about the process of getting Turner on board, saying that going after "a big name" in Hollywood is a task that could go on for many weeks and eventually end in disappointment. Fortunately, the renowned actress agreed to join the show and the casting progressed without difficulty.
The production staff, as well as the cast, of the new religious cult drama seem to have been overjoyed by Turner's participation, with Katims calling it "an amazing experience" and Dancy saying, "It was a very good day when they told me that Kathleen Turner was going to be my mom." "Very," he stressed.
"The Path" premieres on March 30 on Hulu.
