'The Path' Season 1 News, Spoilers: Hugh Dancy Says 'There's More to Sarah Than Meets the Eye'
The third episode of Hulu's first major scripted drama series, "The Path," gave viewers a glimpse at the dark underbelly of the fictional Meyerist Movement, as well as some context to the movement's leader, Cal, played by "Hannibal" alum Hugh Dancy.
In "A Homecoming," it was revealed that Cal was helping to hide the fact that Steve Meyer, the movement's founder, was dying, and that he had been using the knowledge of Meyer's deathbed illness to get in a position of power in the movement. "The Path" viewers were also treated to a bit of a backgrounder on Cal, who visited his estranged alcoholic mother (played by screen legend Kathleen Turner) and tried to put her in an assisted living facility.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dancy spoke about what's ahead for Cal and his thoughts on Sarah (Michelle Monaghan).
According to the actor, the third episode was instrumental in letting fans understand that Cal's belief system is the thing that is "holding him together." Dancy also hinted at three new characters who will appear in the fourth episode, titled "The Future." According to the actor, these characters are ones that Cal can speak frankly with and are members of the movement who are on the same level as him. "They're the other three people on the upper rungs, on the 10th rung of the ladder," he said.
Dancy also spoke about Sarah, another character Cal is able to confide in. As the actor said, "…If we get to tell more of the story, my feeling is that there's more to Sarah than meets the eye."
"I don't think she's so selfless or so unambitious or whatever," he explained. "She's certainly got steel running through her. So we'll see."
Meanwhile, actress Amy Forsyth, who plays high school student Ashley Fields in the series, recently spoke to Design and Trend about what viewers can expect from "The Path."
"Everyone is expecting the drama, but I am excited for people to, hopefully, laugh and cry along with these beautiful characters that our writers and actors have created," she said. "It is dark and gritty, sexy and smart."
New episodes of "The Path" are made available every Wednesday on Hulu.
