'The Persistence' Release Date, News: PS VR Title Allows Outside Help Through Smartphone App
Virtual reality (VR) can be considered the future of gaming as it brings player immersion to new heights. As such, a new PS VR title is set to arrive in the future, and it is FireSprite's first-person stealth/ horror game, "The Persistence."
The game's official trailer reveals that the incidents take place in 2521 aboard the spaceship known as The Persistence. The place is infested by seemingly zombie-like creatures that attack anything that moves. The ship's artificial intelligence awakens the survivors in order to escape or thwart the infestation that has happened.
In an interview with UploadVR, executive game director Stu Tilley points out that the ghastly enemies lurking about are former crew members aboard the ship that met an accident while closing in on a black hole. "One of the experiments they do goes terribly wrong and most of the crew get mutated," Tilley explains.
"So the ship's computer decides the best strategy for saving the ship is to wake any survivors in cryosleep one at a time to see if they can sneak past the bad guys to get the engines back online and take The Persistence away from the black hole and back to Earth," he adds.
What's interesting about the game, however, is that there is no single map to memorize. Tilley explains that every time a character dies, he awakes as a different person and is plunged into a completely new area and enemies, making each playthrough unique and exciting.
Perhaps the more exciting feature of the upcoming VR title is how a friend can help navigate through the ever-changing environment via smartphone app. Sony Interactive Entertainment America's Social Media director Sid Shuman said that a companion app could dictate the area's layout, make noises to distract enemies and even open locked doors, adding a new layer to the experience.
"The Persistence" has no release date slated yet, but will come exclusively on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PS VR.
