'The Predator' News, Release Date: New Motion Poster Shows Film's Suburban Setting
The original "Predator" movie is already celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, but the franchise is still a magnet for fans. Ahead of the 2018 release of a new film under the franchise, a new motion poster for "The Predator" has been released, highlighting the upcoming film's urban setting.
Heavily based on the first teaser image previously released for the film, the new motion poster surfaced online over the weekend and shows a lightning as it strikes over a city, its bolts distinctly forming the shape of the alien hunter. The animated image is reminiscent of a scene from "Predator 2" where lightning struck while the alien was watching over Los Angeles.
According to reports, "The Predator" officially completed filming last June and is set to reinvent the "Predator" franchise for the modern generation. Although the official synopsis for the upcoming film is yet to be released, 20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider previously confirmed that the film would feature a suburban setting.
Filmmaker Shane Black, who wrote "Lethal Weapon" and "The Last Boy Scout" and directed "Iron Man 3" and "The Nice Guys," is helming "The Predator." In a previous interview, Black said that the upcoming film would get fans excited again following the lackluster performance of the most recent film in the franchise, "Predator 2." He said that "The Predator" would be a reboot of sorts, although it would still be connected with the previous installments in the franchise, particularly to the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"The Predator" will find the humanity dealing with more than one Predator. Unlike previous "Predator" films that were set in a jungle, however, the upcoming film will move to a suburban setting. Back in February, Black took to social media to share the first look at "The Predator" ensemble cast, including Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Sterling Brown, and many others.
"The Predator" will open in theaters on Aug. 3, 2018.
