'The Punisher' Premiere Date, News: 'The Walking Dead' Trolls Jon Bernthal

As "The Punisher" will soon debut on Netflix, star Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher) got an unexpected marketing push from his former show, AMC's "The Walking Dead." The latter's official Twitter account trolled the actor but in the best way possible.

Viewers best know Bernthal for his role on "The Walking Dead" before he landed the role of Frank Castle in "The Punisher." He played the hero Shane Walsh in the zombie apocalypse series but his character died in season 3 not knowing he's the father of the unborn baby girl Judith.

Judith remains alive in the current season of "The Walking Dead" as Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) daughter. The Twitter account did not want the fans to forget this fact and soon launched a battle with Netflix's Twitter brands.

"The Walking Dead" Twitter account alluded that one video promo for Netflix's "The Punisher" might provide hints about the paternity. Netflix and "The Punisher" Twitters also replied, much to the amusement of the fans.

Meanwhile, one producer from "The Walking Dead," Gale Anne Hurd, is eager to see Bernthal leading his new show. Incidentally, Gurd also worked as producer on "The Punisher" movie adaptation with Thomas Jane in 2004, hence she's pretty familiar with the character's mythology.

"I don't think they could have found a better Frank Castle than Jon Bernthal," Hurd told Cinema Blend. "I am as eager to see that show as anyone, as a fan of his, and obviously as a fan of the character."

Netflix viewers, however, have likely caught a glimpse of Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher since the character first appeared in a few episodes on "Daredevil" season 2. The actor's performance as guest star in this series left a good mark that Marvel and Netflix decided his character should get a solo series.

Netflix has not yet confirmed the air date of "The Punisher" but fans speculate the first season episodes will be out on a Friday weekend this October.
