'The Real Housewives of Orange County' News: Lauri Peterson's Son Faces Another Batch of Charges After Dismissal of First Case
The son of former "The Real Housewives of Orange County" star Lauri Waring Peterson is reportedly facing another set of attempted murder charges shortly after the first case was dismissed.
Peterson's 28-year-old son, Joshua Waring, was recently cleared of the previously filed charges after the court deemed he had been deprived of a proper preliminary hearing, according to The OC Register.
However, the report added, the three counts of attempted murder were once again filed against Waring on the same day the previous ones were dismissed. He had been charged for allegedly shooting someone in June 2016.
After wounding the victim in Costa Mesa, the reports said Waring initiated a police chase.
The OC Register added that the prosecution filed for three counts of attempted murder since two more people were standing at a close distance from where the man allegedly wounded by Waring was. However, they were reportedly not hurt in the June 2016 incident.
Waring's first public defender had supposedly delayed the preliminary hearing against his client's will. When the accused requested for the judge to allow him to represent himself, the former was also denied that option.
With those prior circumstances, Waring's new appointed lawyer, Joel Garson, asked the judge to dismiss the case due to violations of Waring's rights. While the prosecution did not object to the motion, they were evidently prepared to re-file the case once it was dismissed.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Garson wrote to the judge and said: "By [delaying] his preliminary hearing ... and forcing counsel on a defendant who insisted on self-representation, Waring was denied his speedy trial rights under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment."
Meanwhile, Peterson was reportedly present during the said hearing and was "taking notes" as the proceedings went on.
Peterson used to be a main cast member of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" from season 1 to 4. In season 5, she appeared as a guest. She was last seen on the show in season 8 as a friend to one of the main cast members at the time.
