The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Slim makes an impression
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Slim was meant to be a notable competitor for Apple's iPad Air 2. This has certainly been the case as there is no doubt that the tech giant has come out with an excellent tablet.
Samsung has started retailing in South Korea, the US, Hong Kong, and in some other countries starting early August.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is its slimmest tablet at only 5.4 millimeters, whereas the iPad Air 2 is 6.1 millimeters slim. Its display is a good 9.7 inches. The fingerprint scanner has been tweaked to make it more accurate. Storage options are 32GB or 64GB, with upgrades to 128GB and additional storage via micro SD card. Users also have two Wi-Fi options - a Wi-Fi and LTE version, or Wi-Fi only.
Speaking of the display, the Samsung tablet has a Super AMOLED 2,048 by 1,536 pixel display. It also has an added feature called "Adaptive Display" technology. This means that the display can automatically adjust its levels depending on the user's surroundings and environment. It alters the gamma, saturation and sharpness of the tablet's screen. These refinements will enhance the user reading, web browsing and gaming but the same can't be said of its video playback.
"The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features. We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere," Samsung Mobile Division CEO JK Shin said in a statement.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Slim and the Apple iPad Air 2 will have a level playing field for at least a year more. Updates to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Slim will be released after its one-year run, that is in August next year. Apple might not even update its iPad Air 2 as it is very confident of its performance and ability to draw users to it.
In terms of price, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Slim costs $685. This is for the 9.7-inch tablet. The smaller one costs $513. It is more expensive than the iPad Air2 and the iPad mini 3.
