'The Shannara Chronicles' Season 1 Recap, Spoilers: Wil, Amberle Face The Rovers

MTV's newest small screen offering, "The Shannara Chronicles" Season 1, premiered last week with a two-hour event in which viewers were finally introduced into the world of elves, druids, demons, and trolls.

Adapted from the best-selling fantasy novel series by Terry Brooks, "The Sword of Shannara Trilogy," the season kicked off with the episode called "Chosen." Here, the protagonist, Princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton) was introduced as an unconventional and brave Elven monarch.

Despite what their tradition dictated, she still insisted joining the Gauntlet race and eventually won to be called one of the Chosen. The title enabled her to become a guardian of the great mystical tree, the Ellcrys. Her life suddenly takes a sudden change when she begins to see horrifying visions that the land was once again ravaged by the Demons.

Meanwhile, a young half-human/half-elf, Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler) left Shady Vale to uncover the truth about the Elfstones which his dying mother gave him. On his way out, he met Eretria (Ivana Baquero), a Rover thief who is quite desperate to free herself from the clutches of her demanding father.

Amberle, Wil, and Eretria would become the three main key characters that will help save the Four Lands from the impending destruction to be brought about by the Demon Army. But long before they take on the huge responsibility, they will first be trained under the tutelage of the centuries-old Druid, and the last of his kind, Allanon, played by "Arrow" star Manu Bennet.

This week, a spoiler report from Zap2it.com said that Eretria and Cephalo (James Remar), a Rover chief, would carry out their plan to abduct Amberle and Wil. The latter, meanwhile, must learn how to use the three Elfstones to save, not only himself, but everyone around him, from the Fury.

"The Shannara Chronicles" Season 1 returns this Tuesday, Jan. 12, with the episode called "Fury" on MTV.
