'The Sims 4' News: Upcoming Pets Included in the 'Cats & Dogs' Expansion Will Come With Traits and Quirks
Traits and Quirks will determine how the pets behave in the game
Pets are unpredictable, which is arguably the best and worst quality they have, and the developers of "The Sims 4" are trying to instill that into the new additions coming to the game later this year.
Developers talked more about how the pets included in the "Cats & Dogs" expansion were going to behave in a recent post on the game's official website.
First off, it was revealed that there was some thought put into allowing players to have full control of their pets in the game, but that apparently took away some of the things that made them really memorable and special.
Upon realizing that, developers decided to use traits and quirks instead to influence the behavior of the incoming pets.
Traits will account for the overall personality of the pet. According to the post, a pet can be active, independent or even both, and there are expected to be many more traits included in the expansion. Those traits will then determine how pets generally act around their Sims.
Then there are quirks, and these are the odd things that pets do that may seem strange to people but are totally normal to the doer. Real-life pets have their own quirks, and so the developers of "The Sims 4" have decided that the animals included in the "Cats & Dogs" expansion should have them as well.
Now, just because the new pets are going to have minds of their own, that does not mean that the players will have absolutely no influence over them.
As the post noted, players can teach their dogs some tricks, while they can also indulge in their cats by giving them all kinds of toys.
Players will still be able to interact with their pets a lot, and it seems like even when they do not, the pets will go about doing their own things anyway.
The "Cats & Dogs" expansion pack will be released for "The Sims 4" on Nov. 10.
