'The Surge' Release Date, News: Game Launches in May 2017; Trailer Reveals a Creepy Complication
In a dystopian future where man attempts to make amends for the past, a simple mistake could create devastating results. Despite using advanced technology for noble aspirations, sometimes things go awry. Such is the concept of Deck 13's action role-playing game, "The Surge."
The latest CGI trailer shows a fictional company named CREO, a huge corporation that aims to fix the planet destroyed by humanity. When the protagonist, Warren, enlists to join the cause, an awful miscalculation creates chaos, rendering him the subject of assault from all things moving around him, which includes robots and employees alike.
The game's plot revolves around Warren's survival. Equipped with a newly installed exoskeleton, he needs to upgrade his suit if he is to overpower threats that hunt him. By piecing together fragments from defeated enemies and items in the rubble, he is able to build much-needed weapons and can customize his suit in order to make it through alive.

The customization interface has first been revealed previously in a gameplay trailer. The pre-alpha footage shows the protagonist hacking through limbs of foes and can readily pick them up to make unique combinations to aid him in his quest to survive. With enemies who lunge at great distances and even multiply at will, he's going to need to be as resourceful as possible.
When the said gameplay clip was shown, various netizens expressed their concerns via YouTube comments. Some are worried that it looks like a cross between "Dead Space" and "Dark Souls." However, given that it is still in development, a lot can still happen for the game.
More information about the title is going to be disclosed on Feb. 1–2 during an annual Parisian event. For now, "The Surge" is slated for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms sometime in May 2017.
