Vampire Diaries Season 7? Show Renewed or Canceled? Uncertain as Nina Dobrev Might Quit

Could the tension between Nina Dobrev and her co-star and ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder be affecting the set of "The Vampire Diaries"?

It has been reported a few months ago that Somerhalder is now dating "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed, who happens to be a good friend of Dobrev. It was rumored that Dobrev was tired of Somerhalder parading Reed around the set of "The Vampire Diaries," and that she has had it with the two of them.

A source from Celebrity Dirty Laundry reveals that there is on-set tension on the show for quite some time now. It was reported that the writers have even changed directions with regards to the show's plot due to Dobrev's awkward relationship with Somerhalder. In an effort to minimize the scenes — especially those of the romantic nature — between their characters on the show, they've created plot points to keep them away from each other, such as Somerhalder's Damon "dying" at the end of the season 5 finale. They have also allegedly put back Dobrev's Elena together with Paul Wesley's character for the new season.

Rumors of the actress leaving the show intensified when it was announced that she will be appearing in a crossover episode in "The Originals." There are speculations that this could be a move to appease Dobrev, who could find a new home in the spin-off of "The Vampire Diaries."

If the actress makes the move to "The Originals," then it's possible that "The Vampire Diaries" could be cancelled. However, since this is reportedly the last season of the show, it's unlikely she'll leave, according to Celebrity Dirty Laundry.

For the crossover, Dobrev will be playing the original doppelganger, Tatia, on "The Originals."

"She's the very first doppelganger so she doesn't have the history of all the other doppelgangers behind her. She is the purest of them all, she's the most unaffected," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Playing the role of Tatia could be a fresh start for Dobrev, however, the actress has not confirmed any of the rumors about her leaving the show as of the moment.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 premieres on Oct. 2 on The CW.
