'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Episode 10 Spoilers: Damon Wakes Up Plus More Preview from the Show's Executive Producer

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 is in a hiatus for the holidays, but The CW has some teasers to keep fans warm throughout their wait.

Damon lives

In "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 10 trailer (below), Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) opens his eyes presumably with the help of the Phoenix Stone. The mysterious stone has been giving the Salvatore brothers flashbacks in the past episodes.

When he awakes, Damon finds out he has been "dead" for three months. Viewers can see Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) telling him this in the trailer. The video also shows Damon attacking the pregnant Caroline Forbes (Candice King).

Caroline's babies

Speaking of Caroline, executive producer Caroline Dries tells TVLine how "the babies inside Caroline will have to come out sooner or later." The publication says the show might do a bit of time jumping when it resumes next year as Caroline's babies, despite being magical in nature, will still take nine months to develop.

Rayna, the vampire hunter

Fans will also be introduced to a new villain, Rayna, the vampire hunter. She is described as being vicious, fierce, driven, smart, and confident. She "returns to the world of the living after being taken out by her enemies" and she won't rest until she has filled her cup of vengeance, reveals TVLine.

Rayna will be played by Leslie-Anne Huff ("NCIS"). "The Vampire Diaries" fans and the media alike have all taken note of how the actress looks like Nina Dobrev. Some fans have even told those behind the show to "get over" Dobrev's exit already.

Dries, however, has told TVLine that the resemblance is "definitely just coincidence."

"I actually haven't met her yet in person, though, and everyone says she doesn't look like her in person," Dries said. "She's a great actress, and she's perfect for the role. … We'll get to see her present-day story and then everything will click when you see her in the future."

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 resumes on Jan. 29, 2016 with episode 10. Catch up on Damon, Bonnie, Caroline, and the rest of the characters of the show on The CW at 8 p.m. ET.
