'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Spoilers and Updates: Ian Somerhalder Says 'We Might Have to Disappoint Fans'

The hit TV series "Vampire Diaries" starring Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore, Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore, and Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert is now coming to an end.

The television series of The CW that first aired their pilot episode back in 2009 set a record of 4.91 million views, a record holder for the network. As the curtains draw, Season 8 might turn out to be not what the fans expected, for one the possibility of a Damon and Elena romantic reunion is nil at best.

"This poor young girl from this tiny town ... she lost everyone she's ever loved, she burned her house down, she's now in a box. These guys have ruined her life, yet everybody wants her to end up with one of them." Ian Somerhalder told TV Line in an interview, dashing the hopes of avid "Delena" fans that are still appealing to the network for Dobrev's comeback in the romantic paranormal series.

Late last year, a farewell party was organized on Lake Lanier by her TVD family, Dobrev then announced in a lengthy Instagram post her official exit from the series saying that deep in her heart she knew her character Elena/Katherine is only a six-season adventure.

Fans clamor for Dobrev to be back might just come true

But the clamor of the eager fans is not to be denied since CW is in negotiations and "talks" with actress Nina Dobrev about a possible comeback. It is even speculated that should Dobrev come back, it won't be as what the fans expected.

The CW president Mark Pedowitz said during the Television Critics Association summer press tour that there are already negotiations to being Nina back since she was a vital part of the success of "The Vampire Diaries."

A darker 'Vampire Diaries'

The character of Damon is also reverting back to his old ways and turning evil once again. He was seen enjoying a killing spree in the trailer after being controlled by an unknown creature, and his younger brother, Stefan, trying to save him once more from his evil ways. Somerhalder also said that the last and final season is going to be darker and more fun.

Kristen Stewart might pick up where Dobrev left off. . .

It is yet to be confirmed, but rumor has it that Kristen Stewart of the Box Office hit "Twilight Saga" will play Nina's role as Elena for the series ender.
