'The Vampire Diaries' Spinoff News: An Alternate Future for a Certain Character?
Now that "The Vampire Diaries" has ended, fans are hoping for another spinoff to spring up from it, but viewers would not want to count on that, at least not right now.
In an interview with Deadline, the possibility of such was recently discussed by "The Vampire Diaries" creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson.
The two were adamant in saying that a "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff is not on the table at the moment. "I don't see any reboot or spinoff opportunities right now. I think the point of the finale was to say goodbye," Plec said.
She did say that she has been thinking about the possibility. "I'm not trying to be coy about a spinoff. I do not have a spinoff in the works but yes I have spinoff ideas in my brain," she explained.
Plec said that a spinoff with Damon and Stefan is nothing but a "pipe dream," noting about what Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley said about no longer being believable as "youthful" vampires.
"But certainly, I'm constantly looking and layering in ideas for where to take this genre universe and this franchise, so it's not out the question that I would explore other ways to keep the universe alive," she went on to say, emphasizing that a Damon spinoff is not happening.
Williamson did present a possible storyline for a "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff that will revolve around a possible new relationship for Caroline (Candice King).
Spoiler Alert! The following contains plot details from "The Vampire Diaries" finale. Read at your own discretion.
By the end of the series, the presence of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) was felt with "The Originals" character donating the money used by Caroline and Alaric (Matthew Davis) to open a school for special children.
"I've always wanted Klaus and Caroline to have another moment, another storyline, another some sort of future. So, we opened up that world to sort of suggest that they did, when it was Klaus that donated all the money to start the school. But nothing is in the works," Williamson explained.
