'The Voice' Season 14 News: Kelly Clarkson Explains Decision to Join Series; Adam Levine to Exit Soon?
Kelly Clarkson has officially joined "The Voice" for its upcoming 14th season.
In May, it was confirmed that Clarkson will be a coach on the NBC show's 14th installment slated to debut early 2018. While many fans are excited with Clarkson's new project, her decision to join "The Voice" instead of ABC's "American Idol" reboot — the show that launched her career — also raised eyebrows.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the "Because of You" singer said she opted to join "The Voice" because she was thinking about her husband and her kids. "I want it to be a great experience for my whole family, and that's what I have to think about at this point in my life," she explained.
Clarkson's husband and manager, Brandon Blackstock, also manages "The Voice" coach Blake Shelton. This means Clarkson spends a lot of time on set with her kids and they are already used to the workings of the program. The "American Idol" winner added that the opportunity to work with her husband was an offer she just could not pass up.
"We're used to the 'Voice' schedule, we already have to work around it because of our family," she continued. "I was kind of bummed too when [Idol] came to me. I hope it's super successful."
Meanwhile, recent rumors claim that season 14 might be the last time Adam Levine will sit on the coach's chair. The Maroon 5 frontman may be taking some time off from the show next year to focus on being a dad. Speculations about Levine's exit on "The Voice" started after his wife Behati Prinsloo confirmed earlier this month that they are expecting their second child.
"The Voice" season 14 is slated to premiere next year. For now, viewers can tune in to the show's 13th season, which airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
