'The Walking Dead' Season 6 News, Spoilers: Josh McDermitt On Denise's Death, Next Episodes; Season To Have 90-Minute Finale

"Nobody is safe in this world," Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene in AMC's "The Walking Dead," said after Sunday's episode saw the tragic death of yet another zombie apocalypse survivor from Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) group.

Alexandrians Denise (Merritt Wever) and Eugene both had a yearning to venture outside their walled haven and prove that they are as tough as the rest of the survivors. In Sunday's episode, titled "Twice As Far," both left Alexandria on supply runs, but only one returned alive. Denise, Alexandria's only doctor, was killed when one of the Saviors, Dwight (Austin Amelio), accidentally shot her through the eye with an arrow. As the new villain said afterwards, he didn't really mean to kill Denise; he was, in fact, aiming for Daryl (Norman Reedus).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McDermitt spoke about what Denise's death means to Eugene and what's in store for fans of the show in the remaining episodes of season 6.

According to McDermitt, it was "interesting" to see the similarities between the stories of Denise and Eugene. "It easily could have been Eugene who got killed this episode. For it to be Denise, that was just as shocking," he said. "It's a nice reminder that nobody is safe in this world."

When asked about the two remaining episodes in the current season of AMC's popular movie apocalypse series, the actor said, "Everyone is so focused on the finale but the final two are full-throttle for sure."

As McDermitt recounted, he sped through the scripts for the next two episodes. "I couldn't turn the page fast enough," he told THR.

"It just left a feeling in my stomach after reading these. We're in new territory with the show now and we're telling things in a different way that the show hasn't done before. It stays with you," he explained.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated final episode of season 6 will run for an extended 90 minutes instead of the usual 60, Entertainment Weekly has learned. This should allow the episode to properly introduce the long-awaited new main villain Negan ("The Good Wife" actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and give fans enough time to guess which fan-favorite character will meet his/her demise by the finale's end.

"The Walking Dead" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
