'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Spoilers: Show Creator Descibes Negan As 'An Atomic Bomb' About To Land On The Show
In less than a month from now, the biggest villain from the "Walking Dead" comic books will finally be making his much-anticipated debut in the back half of the sixth season of AMC's hit zombie apocalypse horror-drama series "The Walking Dead."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the "Walking Dead" comic book series writer and "TWD" executive producer Robert Kirkman revealed some interesting details about Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and The Saviors, calling Negan "an atomic bomb" and saying that viewers are not at all prepared for The Saviors.
"As far as shake-ups go, we have lots of shake-ups from season to season," Kirkman said in the same report. "It keeps things interesting — keeps the blood pumping, I like to say — but Negan is kind of an atomic bomb that's going to be dropped on the show and the show will probably never be the same after that."
As in the comic books, Negan will be leading a group of survivors called The Saviors when viewers finally meet the baseball-bat-wielding villain at some point in Season 6B. And while other groups were either too weak or too disorganized or too evil, Kirkman said that The Saviors are "dangerously organized."
And while most descriptions of Negan lean towards the Saviors' leader being a psychopath, Kirkman said that Negan has been able to keep his band of survivors alive for about as long as Rick (Andrew Lincoln) has kept the Alexandrians together because he has "had his morality dial a few clicks away from Rick toward the darker aspects of his personality" and because he is an "intellectual" and "capable" commander.
"It's really the best encountering the best," Kirkman said of Negan and Rick. "When these two forces come head to head, things are gonna get interesting," the "TWD" boss revealed.
"The Walking Dead" returns with the second half of its Season 6 on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 9/8c on AMC.
