'The Walking Dead' season 6 spoilers; Showrunner teases more threats

The fifth season of the hit series "The Walking Dead" ended with a bang. Morgan Jones (Lennie James) returns and reunites with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) at the Atlanta safe zone. Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) goes crazy and starts distancing herself from the group. Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) almost get killed by a horde of zombies, while Glenn Rhee (Steven Yuen) and Nicholas (Michael Traynor) end up fighting, which results in the death of the latter. Rick kills Pete Anderson (Corey Brill) after the latter kills Reg Monroe (Steve Coulter). It occurs to Morgan that Rick has changed dramatically.

The brand-new season will be even more action-packed, according to showrunner Scott M. Gimple as he teased more threats to the group. "There are multiple threats, even in the first half of the season. And sort of different versions of threats we've seen before. The first three episodes are quite intense, and the cast and crew are — we just shot them out of a cannon directly into another cannon that we shot them out of again. The first three episodes are — we say every year, "Ah, it's so crazy" and everything, and it has been crazy — but the first three episodes this year and the things that we're doing are very big and very difficult, and we're pushing people hard, and in some ways I think we're going to be pushing the audience hard. I'm pretty excited and terrified about it," he said. Furthermore, he mentioned that the wolves will be prominent, but it will not jump directly to that problem yet.

The forthcoming season will introduce some new characters. Merritt Wever will play Dr. Denise Cloyd. Ethan Embry, on the other hand, will play an Alexandrian who will probably try to turn the town against Rick. Corey Hawkins will play Heath, the town's supply runner.

The season will be digging deeper into the backgrounds of the respective characters, and it will stick as closely as possible to the original comics. The backstory will give the fans some insight into Rick's character and will serve as a prequel to the comics.

The Walking Dead will premiere on Oct. 11 on AMC.
