'The Walking Dead' Season 7 News, Spoilers: Lauren Cohan Says Season 7 Opener Will Be 'Intense,' 'Explosive'

Although the next season of AMC's "The Walking Dead" is still many months away, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie in the series, has teased the season 7 premiere, saying that it will be "intense" and "explosive."

"I think there will be some answers right off the bat, and it will be very, very intense. And then we'll be exploring avenues and relationships that we haven't yet, but you'll definitely be taken on the roller coaster ride," the actress told E! News. "I mean, the season comes back with a pretty intense, explosive start."

It was only two weeks ago that the popular zombie apocalypse series aired its much-anticipated and much-hyped season 6 finale, which introduced the new villain Negan ("The Good Wife" actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and was supposed to show the death of a fan favorite character. But while "The Walking Dead" delivered on the first, it failed on the second, leaving viewers with a giant dangling cliffhanger.

As expected, "TWD" fans are still miffed over the decision to save the major character death for the season 7 opener, which is still many agonizing months away.

Cohan says that she shares the fans' pain and that she thinks the reaction is just part of the "Walking Dead" viewing experience.

"It's brutal," she said. "It's so brutal. But this is a brutal show."

According to Cohan, she feels like the "TWD" viewership is "communally addicted" to the stress of watching the characters go through difficult situations and to the release when they make it out alive. This is why, she said, the next season will start off with a "big resolution," which should hopefully bring some relief to the show's aggrieved fans.

"But I know how painful the cliffhanger is," she added.

Truly, the season 6 cliffhanger isn't only painful for fans, but also for the "TWD" actors, some of whom weren't in on who died at Negan's hands in that climactic scene. The stakes are higher for Maggie, Cohan's character, who, apart from potentially dying via Negan's baseball bat, was also suffering from severe abdominal pain during the entire episode.

Even if Negan chooses to kill someone other than Maggie, she could still perish from whatever was ailing her at the time.

According to Cohan, it is a possibility that Maggie is the one to say goodbye, but at least the character has had a good, long-running story on "TWD." "If her time comes, it won't be unfulfilled," the actress told The Wall Street Journal. But she's still holding out hope that Maggie will continue on.

"So I'm hoping it's an appendicitis," she said.

"The Walking Dead" returns with its seventh season this fall on AMC.
