'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Spoilers: Negan Will Have His Share of the Spotlight; A Beloved Character Dies
Last season's finale is just a taste of things to come in TWD Season 7.
Among the villains that have appeared in "The Walking Dead", Negan is different from them all. In fact, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character is almost an exception to all TV villains. This is due to the fact that he will not get killed off but instead be an integral part of the new season and maybe even beyond.
Negan and Rick Grimes share the spotlight
According to a spoiler report for "The Walking Dead" Season 7, the series will not all be about Rick Grimes anymore. Negan will have his share of the spotlight. It also means that he will be sticking around for a while after the explosive Season 6 finale.
According to reports, in the comic books by Robert Kirkman from where the TV series was based, Negan will still be around even after the battles in the Kingdom, Saviors, Hilltop Colony and Alexandria worlds.
It is beginning to look like "The Walking Dead" Season 7 is going the same route. Negan will not only be still on board but will be a central part of the story together with Rick Grimes.
Ownership over the show
Executive Producer Greg Nicotero spoke about the two characters in an interview. He said that like in the comic book, Negan has now some sort of ownership over the show.
In the comic book version, Rick attempted to kill Negan but failed. Rick just took him instead as a prisoner and caged him. However, that was not the case for long as Negan escaped and continued to taunt Rick.
Seeing that Negan was still very much a part of the story even several issues later, Nicotero believes that the character will be sticking around for one or two more seasons .
A taste of things to come
Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman teased in another interview that what was seen in last season's finale was just a taste of what is to come in nearly every episode of the upcoming season.
Kirkman said that Negan will be an ever present threat in the show. "The Walking Dead" Season 7 will see him walking around doing all kinds of horrible stuff. Kirkman added that they will be expanding the world of the survivors and will have a huge catalyst that will happen to them.
He further teased in the interview that the walkers will be used in the show in more interesting ways. There will also be a lot of new characters. But, the season will also see someone loved by many fans, die.
One thing to look forward to in "The Walking Dead" Season 7 however, is the introduction of Ezekiel, played by Khary Payton, and his pet tiger named Shiva. The two were briefly seen in the official promo trailer that was shown in the recent Comic-Con.
"The Walking Dead" Season 7 premiere will air on October 23 on AMC.
