'The Walking Dead' season 7 spoilers: Who did Negan kill?
Two weeks after the massive cliffhanger on "The Walking Dead" season six finale, fans of the show are still grappling with the ending, trying to find answers where none are obviously forthcoming. But Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Green on the show, shared in an interview that she herself had felt cut up about the scene in "Last Day on Earth" where Negan offs someone with his bat. The scene was shot in such a way as to not see who it was that got hit. Cohan said that fans can expect, right at the beginning of the season seven premiere, to be shown who it was that got killed.
Cohan told E! News she had not been the only one grieving then, "It was effectively a giant funeral for one of our loved ones and we just don't know who that is …We're pretty broken up about the whole thing."
"The Walking Dead" season six finale left fans furious that the show did not reveal who Negan had killed with his bat named Lucille. And since it is still several months till October when the series returns with season seven, the show's avid viewers are finding it unbearable to keep the burning question in mind till then.
Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl Grimes, posted on his Twitter account, "if it makes you feel any better I still don't know who got killed and it's been like 6 months since I read the script. #whoisit"
So who did the Saviors' leader Negan kill?
Executive producer, Greg Nicotero, who was director for the season six finale, indicated that the cast had known nothing about who it was Negan killed. On Entertainment Weekly he admitted, "It was specifically written that way. The POV shot looking up at Negan in that last moment … we didn't have anybody there because we didn't want even somebody on the crew or somebody there to go, 'Oh I get it, I know what's going to happen.'"
Contrary to Nicotero's claims, some do know the identity of the person who got killed.
Norman Reedus, playing Daryl Dixon on the show, admitted on the Today show that he did know who it was that got killed, but went on to say that it was not about who died and that he felt it was a "brilliant" ending for the season.
Someone else also knows: Tyler James Williams. Williams played Noah in the show's fifth season, but his character had been killed off. Even so, he has kept up with his former co-stars and confessed he knew who had been killed but would not reveal who told him except that it had been one of the cast. And he has known since "middle of 6," meaning mid-sixth season.
Williams told Entertainment Weekly, "You have to understand [showrunner Scott M. Gimple] knows everything seasons and seasons out, so people knew, but we can't say anything."
Cohan was reassuring, "… we'll definitely be having a big resolution when we come back, right off the bat, so that should be of some relief to people ..."
The actress warned though that the next season will be "very, very intense." She declared she knew enough to say season seven will take the audience on a "roller coaster ride" as it will explore areas the show has not touched on so far.
Cohan also revealed that filming for season seven will begin in a few weeks' time, and it will be in Atlanta.
"I would say it's really a testament to people's dedication," Cohan commented on the reaction of the show's fans to the finale, "but I feel like this is going to be the longest six months."
