'The Whispers' finale spoilers and episode 12 recap: Is it the end of humanity?
"The Whispers" finale is fast approaching, and it looks like it's gearing up for the most jaw-dropping conclusion ever. The episode is titled "Game Over" and it has the adults trying to figure out a way to stop Drill once and for all before he ends his murderous game.
The official synopsis of the finale reads, "Drill's secretive end game is put into action and the adults must do something in order to stop it before it reaches its final and possibly lethal ending. The promo for the finale teases a brewing showdown and a battle for mankind."
Showrunner Zack Estrin spoke about the conclusion of the series and promised a satisfying ending that will leave the door open for season 2. "The important thing to know is that this entire 13-episode season is going to air. And it's a very satisfying run. We don't want anyone to lose faith, because you are going to get a very satisfying season and an amazing conclusion to the season, no matter what. There's not going to be some kind of disappointment in the end," he said.
The previous episode began with a nice father-daughter moment between Wes (Barry Sloane) and Minx (Kylie Rogers) via a flashback in which Minx has a nightmare and Wes sings a nursery rhyme. However, the reality is that everyone believes that Drill has inhabited Minx and that she is the one that killed doctor Benavidez (Catalina Denis).
Claire (Lily Rabe) visits Minx in her tiny cell and asks if she is Drill, but the girl refuses to say anything. So, Claire talks to the other kids instead who confirm that Minx is Drill. Silas even tells her that Minx threatened to kill his mom. Claire checks the computer of doctor Benavidez and notices that it's Minx's file that has been corrupted.
Meanwhile, Daniel Goetz (Tom Butler), the reporter, informs Sean (Milo Ventimiglia) and agent Rollins (Derek Webster) that he knows about Drill but believes that Drill is a government cover-up. Sean tells Goetz everything because the latter will want confirmation and then the administration will have to release the children.
Frommer (David Andrews) prepares to kill Minx because he thinks that she is Drill. Wes is clearly running out of time to save his daughter, while Goetz tells Sean that Orion is Cassandra's secret service code name.
Cassandra is Drill, and before Claire could stop the little girl, she has sent out Drill's signal by screaming in the middle of her father's White House speech. Sean manages to stop Frommer from killing Minx and all the children are released.
The finale will air on Monday, Aug. 31.
