"Game of Thrones" (GOT) fans got the rare chance of meeting George R. R. Martin in person at the 74th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) 2016. However, they failed to squeeze details about the release date of "The Winds of Winter" (TWOW), the forthcoming sixth novel of "A Song of Ice and Fire" (ASOIAF) series.

Christian Post reported last week that Martin will be at Kansas City, Missouri from Aug. 18-21 to grace his scheduled autograph signing, reading and panel appearances at the Worldcon 2016.

Per The Kansas City Daily Star, Martin's appearances at the event drew large crowd. Worldcon 2016 spokesperson Chris Barkley told the media outlet that more than 7,000 passes had been already sold in the afternoon of Aug. 20.
Fans got the rare opportunity of getting their books and memorabilia signed by the 67-year-old bestselling author. They also received passes to sit on the famed iron throne of the massively popular GOT series.
Still Uncertain About TWOW's Release
While fans enjoyed meeting Martin at the Worldcon 2016, they failed to learn more details about the upcoming TWOW novel. The author remained elusive about the progress of the sixth book of the ASOIAF series.
In an interview with The Kansas City Star ahead of the Worldcon 2016, Martin revealed that his writing process is slow. He admitted that he has always been a slow and painstaking writer. He stressed that there are good days when he writes more pages and there are bad days when he does nothing.
According to Corey Smith of WIC, Martin's statement about his slow writing process is not a comforting thought for fans who are waiting for TWOW for so long. He, however, hoped that the sixth ASOIAF novel will be completed soon as it has been five years already since the fifth novel came out.
It can be recalled that fans speculated in July that Martin will drop the release date of TWOW at the Worldcon 2016. But the author already clarified ahead that he will not make any special announcement at the event.
'Wild Cards'
Aside from meeting GOT fans, Martin also attended the Worldcon 2016 to launch "High Stakes," the 23rd volume of the "Wild Cards" series. The bestselling author serves as the editor of the recent novel and story contributor in the past volumes.
Martin announced on his live journal early this month that Universal Cable Productions will make a television adaptation of the book series. However, unlike GOT, he will not personally get involved in the production.
