'The Winds of Winter': What Are Fans Looking Forward to in the Upcoming Book?
Even after six years since the last book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire Series" was released, author George R. R. Martin has yet to complete the next one, which is titled "The Winds of Winter."
Fans have been disappointed when the release date kept being pushed back, but there are still a lot of things that they are looking forward to in the book.
Apparently, the most anticipated event in the next book is Jon Snow's resurrection. Played by Kit Harington in the "Game of Thrones" series, the character was already resurrected and is actually now the King in the North. However, in the books, which are already falling far behind the television adaptation, he has yet to wake.
In one Reddit thread, fans are curious on how Martin is going to deal with Jon's resurrection if it is going to be any different from what happened in HBO's hit series. There is also a lot of curiosity regarding Samwell Tarly's whereabouts.
In the television series, where he is being played by John Bradley West, Sam traveled all the way to Citadel and discovered that Dragonglass, which is used to kill White Walkers, can be mined in Dragonstone. In the books, however, fans are speculating that instead of Dragonstone just being a Dragonglass mine, Martin will delve deeper into the place's history, especially because it is very significant to the Targaryens.
Back in July, the author revealed on his live journal that he was still "months away" from finishing the next book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series.
"I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say," Martin wrote. "Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018... and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream," he added.
"Fire and Blood" is said to tackle the history of House Targaryen, detail by detail. Martin originally planned to make it a guidebook for the entire series, but with the series being published first, and all the documentation and cuts that had to be made in it, the author decided that he would release "Fire and Blood" after the conclusion of his novel series.
