'The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition' Rumor Shut Down by CD Projekt Red
Rumor about a "The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition" sprouted recently. But CD Projekt Red shut it down as quickly as it had started.
On Jan. 11, several media outlets reported that "The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition" was seen on at least two retailer websites with a release date pegged at Feb. 5. The listings were originally spotted and talked about on Neogaf. Screenshots of the said listings were even posted for proof that an Enhanced Edition of the game indeed appeared on French retailer e-leclerc.com and another online retailer smarttoys.be.
When CD Projekt Red got wind of the rumor afterward, it took to its social media outlets to clarify that the listings were "some kind of error."
"There's no Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that we are aware of, this is some kind of error that we will look into," tweeted Michal PG, a CD Projekt Red marketing employee.
The game's official Facebook page also posted a similar message. The company also denied the rumor in a thread in its official forum.
Fans who believed the rumor could not be blamed as CD Projekt Red had released Enhanced Edition versions for the previous two installments of the series. Some believe "The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition" may still be released eventually. But as GameRantnoted, although an Enhanced Edition isn't too much of a stretch, it was rather unusual for it to fly under the radar until the last month of its release.
"The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition" has turned out to be a false alarm, but there are still at least a couple of things players and fans of the game can look forward to. First, CD Projekt Red just released "The Witcher 3" patch 1.12. Second, the game's second DLC, Blood and Wine, is still upcoming.
