'The X-Files' News: Gillian Anderson Might No Longer Return After Season 11
Actress Gillian Anderson recently revealed that the 11th season of "The X-Files" might be her last. At the New York Comic-Con over the weekend, the actress revealed the reason why season 11 might be her swan song as Dana Scully.
After its initial run from 1993 to 2002, "The X-Files" delighted fans when it returned to the small screen for a six-part revival season. As expected, the comeback series was a success, prompting its creators to get the 11th season in motion as soon as the 10th season ended.
Last month, it was reported that season 11 already started filming in August, with Anderson and David Duchovny, who plays Anderson's colleague FBI agent Fox Mulder, shooting their scenes. The upcoming season will also reportedly see the return of Mitch Pileggi as FBI assistant director Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as Cigarette Smoking Man.
While fans are already excited to see Anderson and the rest of the gang return for the next season, Anderson revealed that fans might see the last of her character in season 11. "No, no. I think this will be it for me," the actress said when asked whether she would be interested in appearing in the franchise after the upcoming season.
According to Anderson, she agreed to return for the next season because she felt that it was not yet over for her character. However, she believes that season 11 might be enough to give Dana Scully's story a proper closure. Talking about her decision to return for season 11, Anderson said, "Because it felt like it wasn't over. It didn't feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that."
Although she believes that season 11 will be her last on "X-Files," the actress admitted that she's not sure how to put into words the feeling once she leaves behind her role as Scully. "You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door," she said.
"The X-Files" season 11 is set to premiere in the small screens in January next year.
