Joel McHale was able to land a role in the series. Access Hollywood reported that the actor was excited to be sharing scenes with The X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. He said, "It was like I had won some sort of contest to be like, 'You get to be on the 'X-Files!' When I go like, 'All right, so Mulder's here ... and Scully's here,' I can't believe, like, I cannot believe my good luck and thank God,"
McHale will be playing the role of a news anchor from a conservative network. He goes by the name of Tad O'Mally, who then becomes an ally for Mulder. He plays a vital role in introducing them to Sveta, played by Annet Mahendru. Her character is essential to the season, as she had been abducted by aliens, which the two will investigate.
Along with McHale, "Chuck" actor Vik Sahay will also be joining the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
