'The X-Files' Revival News: Is There Another Movie Or Revival Series In 'The X-Files'' Future?
Now that the "X-Files" six-episode revival series is halfway through, fans are getting anxious about if and/or when they get to see Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) team up on-screen again.
"I don't think it's it for Mulder and Scully, but I have to say, there's no guarantee that we're coming back," Chris Carter, who created "The X-Files," recently told E! News. "So, while I see Mulder and Scully and stories down the way, we end up on a very big cliff," he said about the revival's upcoming finale.
But though Carter said that no more episodes, apart from the original six, are planned for the 2016 revival event, Fox CEO Gary Newman recently told reporters that Fox Television is open for more episodes of the sci-fi drama/thriller.
Speaking from the recently-concluded Television Critics Association's winter press tour, Newman said, "The biggest impediment to going forward with 'The X-Files' is the schedule of David and Gillian and, to an extent, Chris." But though Anderson and Duchovny are committed to other projects, Newman said that [Fox] "would be on board" if the actors' schedules can accommodate more episodes of the revival season.
Despite Newman's statement, Carter said that there has been no talk about developing another batch of episodes for the current "The X-Files" revival. He does, however, have a script for a third "X-Files" movie, which he wrote before working on the limited revival event. He also told E! that someone from Fox's features department has been in contact with him regarding the script.
"But that is a long way from saying there will be a third film," he said.
As for whether or not Fox could come out with an "X-Files" reboot with different lead actors, like what they did with the upcoming "24: Legacy," which will be without its original star Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), Carter said that Fox can do as they please. However, the "X-Files" creator also said, "My hope is if there are more episodes, that they want to do them with David and Gillian and that David and Gillian want to do it with them."
"The X-Files" revival season airs Mondays at 8 p.m EST. on Fox.
