'The Young and the Restless' Casting News, Spoilers: Michael Muhney's Replacement as Adam Newman Still Uncast
"The Young and the Restless" fans are still wondering when they will see more of beloved character Adam Newman this week.
The character disappeared after actor Michael Muhney was fired from the role earlier this year amidst sexual harassment allegations. Although it has been months since the firing, "Y&R" fans are still outraged over the loss.
"@michaelmuhney You are the ONLY Adam Newman but he isn't the only one you can be," one Twitter user Robin wrote recently. "Can't wait to see who you'll be next. Xoxo"
Making matters worse, the ABC soap has not yet replaced Muhney in the role of Adam, despite breaking the news that the character is alive. Showrunners are reportedly having a difficult time casting an actor for the role, and "Y&R" exec Jill Farren Phelps revealed that the search is "going."
"We hope [Adam returns]," she told Soap Digest via Hollywood News Daily. "He's a very pivotal character. His return will blow the canvas right open."
While Muhney's exit continues to upset fans who are boycotting the soap opera and campaigning for the actor's return, ratings on the series are reportedly suffering. However, Phelps noted that "Y&R" is "growing" and will continue to thrive.
"The show must go on and it has successfully done so for over 40 years, and it will continue to," she assured Soap Opera Digest. "We are only going to get stronger and stronger."
For his part, Muhney appears to have moved on from his days at "Y&R." The actor recently revealed a movie role via Twitter.
"Whew! Flying to New York tomorrow to take some meetings… Then back to L.A. on Sunday to begin filming a movie! #busybusy," Muhney posted last week.
