'This Is Us' Original Script Featured Octuplets; When Does Season 2 Return?
NBC's highly popular drama series "This Is Us" was originally meant to feature eight babies or octuplets. Creator Dan Fogelman revealed this detail in an exclusive interview as the show prepares its second season run this fall.
Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter that he wrote about a story with grown-up octuplets for "This Is Us" for the big screen several years ago. Realizing that it had no point after a series of rewrites, Fogelman decided to shelve the screenplay.
Sometime later, it ended up with TV studios as a story about three siblings. ABC was interested in airing the series but NBC seemed a better fit, where it was scheduled on Tuesday nights.
TV fans instantly fell in love with the story of the Pearson siblings Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown), as well as their parents, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) on "This Is Us" following its September 2016 debut. The ensemble's chemistry was evident from the start and viewers welcomed the Pearson family week after week into their homes.
"This Is Us" became a critical success as well as a ratings puller.
As with shows that have a strong following in the age of social media and the internet, however, the cast and crew take pains to keep spoilers from leaking. The producers would sometimes have script pages censored or filled with code names.
Some scenes would be shot out of order to throw off potential spoilers. People working on "This Is Us" signed non-disclosure contracts as well.
Production for the second season started in early August and it's anticipated that the show will only get bigger this year. One confirmed Hollywood star is gracing the show for a one-episode appearance. Sylvester Stallone will play himself and will also be like a father figure to Kevin.
"This Is Us" will premiere its highly-anticipated second season on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
