'Thor 3' news, cast, spoilers: Pinewood Atlanta Studios chosen location of Thor 3
Marvel is currently a continuous spinning wheel with no plans of stopping in probably another four years, if its current movie lineup is going to be the basis. Recently, "Captain America: Civil War" just wrapped up filming, and it seems that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and "Thor: Ragnarok" are up next in the filming schedule.
Thor: Ragnarok is the third installment to the hammer-wielding Norse god. Although the movie still lacks a director, it doesn't look like it's lost at all. According to Screen Rant, despite not having a set schedule until late 2016, the location for the movie was already decided on. The report says that Pinewood Atlanta Studio, where Captain America: Civil War was shot, is also the chosen venue for Thor: Ragnarok. This was confirmed by a tweet from the Filming in Georgia account, which said "Thor: Ragnarok to be Filmed in Georgia at @PinewoodStudios! @chrishemsworth @JaimeAlexander @twhiddleston."
"Thor: The Dark World" was shot at Pinewood London locations, and will also be the same location for Marvel's "Doctor Strange," which will start filming in a few weeks. The decision to film in Atlanta can most likely be attributed to the fact that it is the newest, most spacious, and advanced studio to date. It would also be cheaper due to tax incentives, and the proximity to Marvel Studios LA headquarters is also notable.
The Atlanta Studios is said to be the location for more Marvel movies to come, since Marvel's new goal in producing three films a year will more likely push the studio to do simultaneous filming in different parts of the world. Another possible location would be Australia's Village Roadshow, which is also great for large-scale superhero films; however, this is unlikely no matter how favorable the current exchange rates are.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
