TLC Singer T-Boz Files for Bankruptcy, Owes Over $760K

T-Boz, a singer from the popular 1990s R&B group TLC, filed for bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year.

T-Boz, born Tionne Watkins, owes $768,642.99 in payments to a variety of sources, the major ones being the multiple mortgages on her $1.2 million home. As such, she filed for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy that would allow her to create a plan to pay back her debts.

The United States Bankruptcy court has documents showing that she also attempted to file for bankruptcy with the Northern District of Georgia February of this year, but the claim was thrown out just a month later.

Although it is unknown exactly why the court denied Watkins’ claim, her current income could have something to do with the case.

Watkins still earns $1,200 a month from royalties from TLC’s numerous chart-topping hits and Grammy Award-winning albums. In addition, she has other income, bringing her total to $11,700 a month. This, along with the fact that she only claims expenses of only $8,821, means she should have enough to stay fiscally healthy.

However, the Hall of Fame music artist alleges that she is owed a large sum of money from several parties. To Watkins, they are at least partially to blame for her financial woes.

Documents obtained state that T-Boz is owed $250,000 in child support from her former husband, California rapper Mack 10. Mack 10, whose real name is Dedrick Rolison, owed Watkins money to take care of their single daughter, Chase Rolison.

T-Boz also claimed she is owed back payments from Mark Jefferson more than $22,000.

Watkins formed one-third of the R&B powerhouse TLC, which was active from 1989 to 2003.

T-Boz, along with rapper-singer Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, achieved success throughout the 1990s, earning millions for their hip-hop style.
