Too Short Charged With DUI, Narcotics Possession After Traffic Stop in LA
Famed Oakland rapper Too Short was arrested Wednesday for DUI after reports indicate that he was trying to ditch police in Los Angeles who were conducting drunken driving checkpoints.
Local reports state that Too Short, whose real name is Todd Anthony Shaw, was driving his vehicle on Hollywood Boulevard when he was stopped by police around 3 a.m. Police were stationed along the boulevard stopping random cars for the drunk driving check points.
When police tried to conduct a breathalyzer test the 46-year-old rapper began to run way from police, who were able to catch up with the rapper and place him under arrest.
"He was stopped for DUI investigation, ran from officers and actually tripped and fell," Lt. Marc Reina of the Los Angeles Police Department told The New York Daily News. "He got maybe half a block and was taken into custody there."
After he was taken into custody, the rapper, who was reportedly trying to dispose of drugs in the back of a police car, and could be charged with felony narcotics possession.
Too Short was taken to a Los Angeles County jail, where he was being held Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bond, according to court documents.
This is not the first time the famed emcee has been arrested. Back in 2009, he was arrested twice for DUI and in 2010, was arrested for a misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an incident in a nightclub in Idaho.
He was also recently linked in connection with the shooting death life of Kansas City rapper Kenny Clutch last month that claimed the lives of two other people on the Las Vegas strip.
Too Short has denied any involvement in connection with the shooting and insists he was not in Vegas at the time of the shooting. He posted a message on his Facebook page stating that he had "no knowledge or connection to this incident."
