Top Internet Search Trends for 2011 Include iPhone, Casey Anthony

Some of the year's most searched terms for 2011 focused on celebrities, gadgets and news developments.

One of the most searched names for the year on Yahoo was Casey Anthony, the young mother accused of murdering her daughter. Search engine Bing revealed that its most searched person for 2011 was Justin Bieber, the popular singer.

Several celebrities topped the list for most searched names this year. Those names include Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Jeniffer Lopez, Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Miley Cirus and many more.

The top 10 list of celebrity questions and search terms for 2011 by Ask.com is compiled below.

1. Kim Kardashian: Was Kim Kardashian's wedding fake?
2. Justin Bieber: Is Justin Bieber going to be a dad?
3. Lady Gaga: Are Lady Gaga's face implants real?
4. Beyonce: Did Beyonce fake a baby bump?
5. Kate Middleton: Who made Kate Middleton's wedding dress?
6. Ashton Kutcher: Did Ashton cheat?
7. Michael Jackson: Was Michael Jackson murdered?
8. Selena Gomez: Is Selena Gomez pregnant?
9. Lindsay Lohan: Is Lindsay Lohan going to jail?
10. Charlie Sheen: What happened to Charlie Sheen's teeth?

Apple's iPhone took the No. 1 spot for most searched topic for Yahoo this year. This may be due to the flood of rumors surrounding the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 models.

Vera Chan, Yahoo's senior editor and Web trend analyst, commented on the smartphone's ranking: "The iPhone was No. 6 last year, so it's not a newcomer. It had a cult following that went mainstream in 2011."

Bing also hosted a list of the most searched consumer electronics for the year, as seen below.

News stories also found their way to the top of search engines. People looked up information on topics such as Hurricane Irene, the death of Osama Bin Laden, the trial of Casey Anthony, the death of Amy Winehouse and the May 21 Rapture.

These popular search engines also listed top searches for reality television shows, sports stars, musicians, and movies. Google said it would have a year-end most search list posted by mid-December.

The year of 2011 brought the world plenty of news developments, gadgets, and celebrity drama.
