Top Scorers for UEFA Champions League 2016-17: Cornelius, Nikolic, McMillan and Griffiths Share Top Spot

Four stars are currently sharing the top scorer chart of EUFA Champions League qualifying rounds with five goals apiece. EUFA Champions League has barely a week to finish the qualifying rounds. It seem that the soccer fans are already picking their favorites from a huge array of talents. This 2016-17 season is indeed living the expectation and some individuals are stealing the center stage.

The qualifiers will close on Wednesday, August 24 next week. This lead all squads to have their eyes set on the September schedule for the competition proper. However, different teams have icing on their cake after individual scorers outperformed the team's efforts.

Topping the list is Andreas Cornelius of Danish Superliga FC with five goals. The 23-year old striker proved that he could rebuild his reputation after several months without a goal in Cardiff. The squad even claimed they lost $11 million when Cornelius failed to deliver.

Cornelius' performance was not a surprise since there are indications of poor play after he suffered an ankle injury last year. The culprit that ruled him out of the rest of the games last year was the match against Silkeborg IF.

Sharing the stats is Nemanja Nikolic of Warsaw Legia who is rumored to be a target of Hull City. At any rate, Nikolic piled five goals during the qualifying round for Polish Ekstraklasa. Nikolic is notorious for showing vast talent since his debut last season. He is Ekstraklasa's top man who made 28 goals in 37 matches last 2015.

Nikolic's achievements include a brilliant performance during his career debut in 2013 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. There he scored against the opposing team Andorra.

McMillan on the A-list

27-year old Dundalk forward David McMillan has the best pre-championship proper this year when he finally made it to the A-list. McMillan's football career is always unpredictable. However, he gained the spotlight during the Olympic FC National Premier League's participation when he scored three goals after seven outings.

Completing the marksmen list is Celtics' Leigh Griffiths with five goals since the opener. Griffiths has been a well of talent when he debuted for Livingston at the age of 16. The recent heart-thumping show for Griffith was a 5-2 win against Hapoel Be'er-Sheva on Wednesday. Griffiths splendidly scored a header that prompted the spectators to go wild for the Scottish player.

The good news for the Celtics squad is Griffiths assurance that he is not seeing himself leaving the team any time soon. Griffiths said that he is happy of the learning he has gained from the team.
