'Training Day' Airtime Schedule, News: CBS Moves Show to the Weekend as 'The Amazing Race' Opens Early

CBS has made several changes in some of its shows' schedules. "Training Day" is pushed to a Saturday airtime as the new installment of "The Amazing Race" comes back a bit earlier than planned.

"Training Day" is a police procedural, crime drama series that only started airing last Feb. 2, starring Bill Paxton as Detective Frank Rourke who works for the Los Angeles Police Department under the Special Investigation Section. The show also features actor Justin Cornwell playing the role of Officer Kyle Craig, a rookie cop rolling as Frank's partner.

Unfortunately, shortly after the show's premiere, Paxton passed away on Feb. 26 after suffering from surgery complications following a stroke. In a statement, CBS expressed their condolences, saying: "We are shocked and deeply saddened this morning by the news of Bill Paxton's passing. ... His colleagues at CBS and Warner Bros. Television will also remember a guy who lit up every room with infectious charm, energy and warmth, and as a great storyteller who loved to share entertaining anecdotes and stories about his work."

The Hollywood Reporter noted that moving "Training Day" to a Saturday slot is a bold move after the network canceled another struggling show "Doubt" only after two episodes. The same report mentioned that "Training Day" had been trying hard to gather a good amount of crowd to its current slot every Thursday alongside big TV shows from CBS such as "The Big Bang Theory."

The show is set to go on a break to give way to the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball games coverage for the remaining days of March. After that, the crime drama series will be back on its new Saturday schedule as "The Amazing Race" airs on Thursdays, starting on March 30.

The 29th cycle of "The Amazing Race" will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. EDT. The other CBS primetime shows on Thursdays are "The Big Bang Theory" at 8 p.m., "The Great Indoors" at 8:30 p.m., "Mom" at 9 p.m. and "Life in Pieces" at 9:30 p.m.

"Training Day" will start airing again on Saturday, April 8, at 9 p.m. EDT.
