'Transformers 5' News: Michael Bay To Direct, Claims Its His 'Last One'
Director Michael Bay cannot seem to keep away from the "Transformers" franchise, one that he was instrumental in bringing to the big screen, starting with the first trilogy of films starring Shia LaBeouf and a fourth film with a new lead star, Mark Wahlberg. According to a report in Time, Bay has finally agreed to helm the film after months of slowly being pulled into the franchise again. Months before, he was reported as one of the film's producers and later one, as creative consultant.
The Time report states that Bay also said that this was going to be the last film he will direct for the "Transformers" franchise. These words, however, were the same words he said the last two times he directed a "Transformers" movie.
According to another report in MoviePilot, fans of the franchise are naturally thrilled that the director who best knows the franchise is coming back. The report also cited an interview with Collider where Bay mentioned that despite his quitting the franchise early on, he was pulled back in again. He also noted that he had to find a workaround with his schedule in order for him to finish his other films, like "13 Hours." The studio behind the franchise is also set on getting Bay to helm all the films, as they seem to have big plans for the franchise.
The MoviePilot report also speculated on whether the former stars of the franchise will be making a comeback. According to earlier rumors, Megan Fox may be a likely candidate but perhaps for just a cameo appearance, which Fox herself seems optimistic about. The other lead star in question is Shia LaBeouf, who was of course replaced by Mark Wahlberg in the fourth film. According to the report, the possibility of him coming back was far off.
The Time report cited that only Mark Wahlberg, who was cast in the lead role in the fourth film, is sure to return, to reprise his role as mechanic Cade Yeager.
The upcoming film, tentatively called "Transformers 5" is set to start filming in early 2016.
