TrendMicro uncovers bugs in QuickTime for PC, suggests to uninstall it right away

The U.S. government recently announced the recommendation directed to Windows-based computer users to immediately uninstall and delete Apple's QuickTime video player after an earlier admission from security software maker TrendMicro Inc. that there are two bugs in the program.

Reuters mentioned in a report that TrendMicro discovered two crucial vulnerabilities in the QuickTime media player, particularly the version designed for the Windows operating system of Microsoft Corporation. The same bugs, according to the software company, can be used to perform attacks on Windows-based PCs if the user visits an infected file or a malicious website.

The QuickTime program has been Apple's staple for playing a wide variety of third-party tools and data, while most computer owners use it as a reliable media player for both audio and video. But because Apple seems to be not really concerned about fixing the issues, particularly considering the fact that it doesn't apply to any of their platforms, both the U.S. government and TrendMicro are doing the initiative to inform users.

Part of the TrendMicro official statement reads:

We're not aware of any active attacks against these vulnerabilities currently. But the only way to protect your Windows systems from potential attacks against these or other vulnerabilities in Apple QuickTime now is to uninstall it.

The company further explains the effects of the bugs in the system, saying that both of them are "remote code execution vulnerabilities" that will deceive the user to visit a webpage or open a file, within which their system eventually opens up to be exploited.

While there still is no clear reason why Apple didn't make the announcement or why they aren't doing anything to fix it, the thing is Windows users can simply have it uninstalled since there are other programs with similar functionality. But if the program is being used for work-related tasks, there isn't any other solution right now.
