'Tron' Reboot Plot, Cast News: Jared Leto Confirms He's In Discussion
Jared Leto's involvement in the "Tron" reboot has been rumored for some months. The actor recently discussed the real status of the movie in an interview to confirm whether or not he's actually in it.
Speaking with Collider, Leto stated that he's in discussions about the "Tron" reboot. The actor, however, won't still confirm how far along the movie is in the development process.
"We're very much looking forward to bringing to reality," Leto said. "It's very early days though."
Leto also said that doing a potential "Tron" reboot excites him because he grew up loving the original movie that came out in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges. He stated that there's still plenty of stories to tell from this futuristic world.
There are no details to the reboot's plot for now. Telling a different story from the same world, however, is on trend in Hollywood today.
"Tron" had a direct sequel in 2010 called "Tron: Legacy" that failed to become a cult favorite like the original movie or a box office hit. Jeff Bridges returned to reprise his role but Garret Hedland was the main character, who played his son.
"Tron: Legacy" was supposed to be followed by "Tron: Ascension" but the project, which is separate from the reboot, remains inactive. The sequel's writer and director Joseph Kosinski confirmed that the studio has frozen the third movie.
Steven Lisbeger wrote and directed the original "Tron" flick. It followed a computer programmer (Bridges) who transported himself inside a video game world after hacking the software.
"Tron" wasn't a massive box office success but it earned a cult following for its groundbreaking visual style. It became the first movie to fully integrate 3-D technology. Lisbeger actually made "Tron" because of his fascination with video games.
"I realized that there were these techniques that would be very suitable for bringing video games and computer visuals to the screen," he said. "And that was the moment that the whole concept flashed across my mind."
