Tropical Storm Nate Path, Track News 2017: Louisiana, Florida Should Prepare for Potential Category 1 Hurricane
Central America should prepare for a possible new hurricane coming their way.
A storm is reportedly developing in the southwestern Caribbean and could hit U.S. soil this weekend. After a streak of consecutive hurricanes, this is definitely one of the last things America needs right now.
With winds at 35 mph, Tropical Storm Nate is still about 150 miles from the Nicaragua/Honduras border. However, the storm is forecasted to get stronger. According to CNN, the storm could possibly rapidly intensify and develop into a hurricane, in the same manner as Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria did.
"Rapid intensification is a possibility over the northwestern Caribbean or southern Gulf of Mexico while the system is traversing rather warm and deep waters," the National Hurricane Center revealed.
While Tropical Storm Nate is expected to arrive along the Gulf Coast this weekend, citizens should still brace themselves for the worst. It is currently expected to make landfall somewhere near Panama City, Florida on Sunday. The location could still change depending on the storm's pattern and strength. By that time, it could have 80 mph winds, which means that the storm will be classified as a Category 1 hurricane.
The hurricane season has brought some devastating storms over the past couple of months. Hurricane Irma hit Florida hard, and countless residents evacuated in anticipation of the natural disaster. The Category 3 storm caused immense flooding and left behind much damage to buildings and infrastructures.
Back then, the Florida State vs. Miami game was rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma, and it looks like they will have to postpone the college football game once again. According to Orlando Sentinel, the game was rescheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, but Tropical Storm Nate may delay the match for the second time.
"We are monitoring the tropical storm and will continue to do so throughout the week," a Florida State University official told the publication.
