'True Blood' Season 7 Spoilers: Joe Mangeniello Says Latest Shocking Death 'Had to Happen'
"True Blood" fans are grieving yet another beloved character following Sunday night's episode "Fire in the Hole."
Although fans were warned that the seventh and final season of "True Blood" would mean deaths of major characters, viewers were not ready to bid a beloved face goodbye this week. Spoiler alert: the following contains information revealed in "Fire in the Hole."
Toward the end of Sunday's installment, Sookie (Anna Paquin) cradled her boyfriend Alcide (Joe Mangeniello) as he slipped from life. Jessica offers to turn the beloved werewolf character into a vampire, but Sookie declines and simply holds the dying Alcide as the rest look on.

Opening up about yet another loved one gone from Sookie's life, Mangeniello told TVLine that Alcide's death "had to happen." The actor explained that his character Alcide did not fit into the final season of the HBO series.
"There was no way they could keep him around," Mangeniello said. "Sookie has to settle things with the vampires, and you can't have Sookie break Alcide's heart because then the audience isn't going to side with her or identify with her … On a show like this, where you're looking for vital characters to kill off, you've got to take out Alcide. There's not one that's going to be upset he's dead, except Sookie – and maybe Sam. Those are the only people he's interacted with ever. He got separated from the herd."
Meanwhile, "True Blood" fans can look forward to several more shocking deaths before the HBO series finale takes place since "True Blood" executive producer Brian Buckner revealed that "heads are gonna roll" all season long.
"It's the final season of 'True Blood,' so gone are the days where we pull our punches," he said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Heads are gonna roll."
Furthermore, "True Blood" star Jason Kwanten who portrays Jason Stackhouse promised that no character is safe from dying this season.
"People are going to be dying," the actor told Access Hollywood. "Some of your favorites are not going to last the season, unfortunately."
