'True Detective' season 3 news: New season still possible
HBO's crime anthology series "True Detective" could return with a new season, despite the lackluster ratings of the previous season that lost a number of fans, even though it was headlined by A-list stars Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams.
The first season had gold ratings for the network, but the last one was hit with very negative reviews and low ratings. Last season was a little bit confusing for most people and had very strange characters and actors playing unusual roles. Case in point is actor Vince Vaughn who is mostly known as a comedic actor but played an unconventional bad guy in the series.
The last season also had a strange and confusing plot that not only included murder but also political corruption. The less than straightforward plot made some people lose interest in the series as the season went on.
A new season is definitely possible, but the producers will have to make some changes to the show's dynamics. The writers should try to find a different arc. This means that they should consider opening the season somewhere in the middle of the action instead of at the beginning. They should also simplify the story and make the plot more straightforward, instead of confusing viewers with too many ideas. They should also give the bad guys a face.
The show, if it returns, should feature a better and crazier pairing like that in season 1 with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. It should also feature more detective work, instead of the crazy drama that littered in the last season. The show should be sprinkled with some lighthearted comedy and not always filled with action and drama that may drive sensible people away.
The series should also be set in an unexpected location. It should be embracing the mystical weird world and exploiting that. The series should go back to the original formula that made the first season really great and that is to tie the season to something literary, which will pique the interest of the viewers.
A fan of the series created an interesting 80s-themed title sequence that features a dream cast of Jake Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Cara Delevingne, and Ryan Gosling.
HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo spoke about the possibility of a third season and said that it is creator Nick Pizzolatto's decision to make. "If he wants to do another season, I said the door is open, we'd like to do another season of it," he said.
