'Turn: Washington's Spies' Actress Heather Lind Accuses Former U.S. President of Sexual Assault
Following the string of sexual harassment allegations against famed producer Harvey Weinstein and the plenty of celebrities who have spoken up about their separate past experiences, "Turn: Washington's Spies" actress Heather Lind has accused a former U.S. President of sexual assault.
The man in question is George H.W. Bush, whom she claims had touched her from behind and "told her a dirty joke" as they posed for a photo during a press event back in 2014.
"When I got the chance to meet George H. W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo," the 34-year-old actress wrote, as reported by E! News.
Claiming that the former President touched her from behind as he was seated in his wheelchair, with his wife Barbara beside him, Lind also said that Bush told her a dirty joke and then touched her again while photos were being taken.
She continues, "Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say 'not again.' His security guard told me I shouldn't have stood next to him for the photo."
The actress ended her Instagram post with the "#metoo" hashtag, which has been used by victims of sexual abuse, harassment, and assault to share their own experiences in the wake of Weinstein's scandal.
The photo of Bush and Lind, along with Barbara and the cast of "Turn: Washington's Spies," can be seen on the AMC website.
After this revelation made headlines, the former U.S. President, who served the country from 1989 to 1993, released a statement through his spokesperson, Jim McGrath.
"President Bush would never—under any circumstance—intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind," McGrath reportedly said.
No further statements have been made regarding the incident.
The 93-year-old former official suffers from a form of Parkinson's disease.
