'Twin Peaks' Revival News: It's Back On With David Lynch
Just when fans of the 1991 TV series "Twin Peaks" have given up hope that the revival of the series will happen, here comes news that it's back on again. David Lynch, the show's creator and director, shared the good news via Twitter. He said in his post: "Dear Twitter Friends, the rumors are not what they seem….. It is!!! Happening again. #TwinPeaks returns on @SHO_Network."
This news comes one and a half month after Lynch announced that he was leaving the project because there was "not enough money offered to do the script the way I felt needed to be done." This was followed by a statement from Showtime that they are still trying to work things out with Lynch and his representatives. Cast members of the show also put together a video saying that doing the show without Lynch would be "like pies without cherries," according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.
Executives at Showtime also confirmed the news. Showtime President David Nevins said Friday, "This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark (Frost) and David (Lynch) tastes more delicious than ever. Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!"
Frost and Lynch have written nine episodes already, even before Lynch announced he was leaving. No information yet as to how many more episodes will be added to the limited run of the series. With the show back on, both Lynch and Frost are also set to produce all nine episodes.
Kyle Maclahlan, who will reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper in the revival, also rejoiced with this piece of news, saying on Twitter that it was "Good to be home."
According to a report in Deadline, the show was originally scheduled to go into production earlier this year so that it can premiere in 2016. 2016 marks its 25th year since its first broadcast on ABC in 1990. No word yet as to when it will premiere on Showtime given the slight delay.
