Twitter Live Video News Update 2017: Periscope Producer API Launched

Twitter cuts out the middle man with the launch of its live video application program interface (API) that lets news and media publishers, companies, groups and individuals hook their broadcasting and video processing equipment directly to Twitter.

Twitter looks to broaden its appeal to news and media outlets and similar agencies by launching the Twitter live video API, as the feature from Tech Crunch makes apparent. The company has just released the service called Periscope Producer API, in partnership with other broadcast services including Telestream's Wirecast and Livestream's Mevo, Switchboard Cloud and Teradek.

The company has just formally announced the Periscope Producer API through a post on their official blog, and they have just added more partners to the launch, including Brandlive, Giroptic iO 360, Grabyo, LiveU Solo, Make.tv, NewTek, Telescope and Vidpresso. Other partners can apply for the private beta through a link in the announcement blog post.

This service, according to a source that spoke with Tech Crunch, will function very much like the earlier Facebook Live API that launched in the month of April last year. Similarly, the Periscope Producer API allows service users to connect their professional broadcasting and video processing equipment feeds directly to Twitter, as first reported in an exclusive by The Information through Tech Crunch.

While the existing Periscope live-streaming app introduced basic features for Twitter video broadcasting, users who want to live stream with professional equipment will have to make a prior arrangement with Twitter beforehand, according to Business Insider.

"This move by Twitter makes live video even more attractive to the world's best brands," said Brandlive chief executive officer Fritz Brumder of the new development. "Brands are adopting live video for some of the most innovative marketing efforts today such as live video commerce events, exciting product launches and even live video concert and runway fashion shows. We are excited about the Periscope/Brandlive integration as it makes it easier for these brands to reach more audiences with the same production effort," Brumder said in a statement made to the Business Insider.
