UFC 194 News: Jose Aldo Says Conor McGregor Would Not Be Able To Hit Him During The Fight
Reigning UFC featherweight champion José Aldo has brought up his trash-talking game, a few days before he unifies the 145-pound titles against brash Irishman Conor McGregor.
Both men have been going at it since the ten-city press tour they went through in April. That, on top of the back and forth trash talking through social media and interviews. The most recent conference call for their main event bout at UFC 194 on December 12th in Las Vegas was no different. For Aldo's part, he personally feels he is still the far more superior fighter and that McGregor would not even come close to inflicting damage.
"[McGregor] wouldn't even get close to me, he wouldn't hit me," Aldo said. "That's not what stopped me from fighting, but other things that would happen. The fight is not what bothered me. I will go there and win like I always did."
Since winning the WEC world featherweight title in 2009, then transitioning to the UFC title, Aldo has successfully defended the belt a total of nine times, an all-time record in UFC history.
For upcoming his tenth title defense, the Brazilian champion says he feels McGregor is not that much different from his past opponents, despite the Irishman's trash talking and belittling.
"The only difference is that I always fought against Americans, and now I'm beating up an Irishman," Aldo said.
For some fighters, McGregor's presence in the UFC is a good thing, because he brings relevance to the featherweight division. Aldo, apparently agrees, even if he is on the receiving end of all the trash talk.
"He's working for me, bringing me money, so why am I going to be angry at him?" the 29-year old fighter said. "I love all this."
The card's co-main event bout will be a middleweight title fight between champion Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold. The event will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
