UFC 194: Preview Of Main Event and Co-Main Event Fights
This weekend at UFC 194, reigning undisputed featherweight champion José Aldo will be unifying the 145-pound titles against interim champion Conor McGregor.
The event will be co-headlined by middleweight champion Chris Weidman, as he defends his title against former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold. Aldo was originally slated to face McGregor at UFC 189 in July, but an injury on his rib forced him out of action.
This had left a bad taste in "The Notorious'" mouth, who later revealed that he too was fighting with a torn ACL when he faced replacement Chad Mendes during the said event. That is all said and done and now, the new fight is only hours away. Both men can finally settle the score and determine who the rightful UFC featherweight king should be.
Having remained undefeated since 2005, Aldo won the world featherweight title back in 2009, when he was still fighing under the now defunct Zuffa-owned promotion company World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). Since making the inevitable move to the UFC, he was able to successfully defend the belt a total of seven times.
Along those defenses were grueling fights against the game's toughest fighters. He last saw action in October 2014, in a fight against Chad Mendes.
McGregor, on the other hand, has not tasted defeat since 2010. Since entering the UFC in 2013, the brash Irishman has won all of his six fights. Five of those victories ended in a stoppage, most of them happening by the second round, at the latest.
The two men have been talking trash at each other since the world press tour in April. All of it will come to an end when they meet at the center of the cage later tonight.
The co-headliner features another clash in styles as the gritty Chris Weidman battles the more versatile Luke Rockhold.
Weidman, who last saw action in May against Vitor Belfort, will also be putting his undefeated record on the line.
Rockhold, on the other hand, got his title shot after decisively beating former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in April.
UFC 194 is scheduled to take place tonight, December 12, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
