UFC News 2015: President Dana White Assures Fans That Holm-Rousey Rematch Will Happen
UFC president Dana White has confirmed that an immediate rematch between bantamweight champion Holly Holm and former champion Ronda Rousey is the next assignment for both women.
After the shocker that "The Preacher's Daughter" pulled on UFC 193 last November 15th, many fans have asked whether or not a rematch between the two would take place. After all, Rousey was able to solidify her name as one of the most dominant champions in UFC history.
White and Holm did mention during the post-fight press conference at the Etihad Stadium, a moment after the new champion was crowned, that for them, giving Rousey an immediate rematch would be the "sensible" move to make. Apparently, the said rematch is what is being lined up for the two women.
In a report by MMA Fighting, White went as far as saying that if the rematch did not happen, he and UFC Chief Executive Office Lorenzo Fertitta should be at fault.
"I think that if we didn't make the rematch, me and [UFC CEO] Lorenzo [Fertitta] should probably lose our promoters' license," White said. "Yeah, that fight's going to happen. I don't know when, but that's the fight that will happen."
White adds that Rousey's accomplishments as a fighter should never be overlooked, adding how she had set many UFC records. In her last three fights prior to facing Holly Holm, "Rowdy's" total time in the Octagon lasted a mere minute and four seconds.
She was able to finish Alexis Davis in 16 seconds in July 2014, Cat Zingano in 14 seconds in February, and Bethe Correia in 34 seconds in August.
"Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated, taken the sport to another level and was beating the best women in the world in 14 seconds or 30 seconds, so she deserves a rematch." White said.
Rousey had previously said that she plans on "disappearing" for a while after UFC 193, and likely come back at UFC 200, which is set for July 2016.
